Introducing DREAM CONTINUUM

It seems no great surprise that Om Unit and Machinedrum have crossed paths, in fact the only surprise really is that it took so long. With Om Unit being behind the fantastic Philip D Kick series of hardcore and jungle edit EP's in the UK and Machinedrum also reworking classic tracks from NYC, their upcoming collaboration makes a lot of sense.

Reworkz EP - Dream Continuum [forthcoming Planet Mu]

Under the combined alias of the Dream Continuum comes the Reworkz EP which contains three cracking reinventions of some seriously classic tracks - in particular a great rework of Nookie's "Give a Little Love". As always it is the groundbreaking Planet Mu label that once again goes where most don't dare when it comes to Juke and Footwork releases and once again they have picked a brilliant EP to get Spring kick started.

The EP gets its full release on 26 March and will be available from all good vinyl and digital retailers.

Bangs & Works

Before Planet Mu put out their Bangs & Works Vol. 1 there were not many people who had ever heard of the Chicago street music phenomenon that is Footwork. Now with it's influence spreading through the Bass music scene it seems only appropriate that the same label gives us a second volume to work to.

Heaven Sent - DJ Rashad & Gant-Man [Planet Mu]

Bangs & Works Vol. 2 brings us the cream of the Chicago scene after sifting through the endless stream of music flowing of the area. This volume features Planet Mu regulars Rashad & Spinn plus a whole host of newcomers including Boylan and Traxman.

You can preview all the rest of the album tracks and pre-order the compilation here. You can also grab a copy to the accompanying EP Ghettoteknitianz from Juno which came out last week.

How's your footwork?

It was music that was just made to dance to, and thanks to the people at Planet Mu the Chicago Juke/Footwork scene has been broadcast across the world. With their second volume of Bangs & Works set to be released in November, the movement is sure to continue to grow.

What really caught our eye, however, is a series of footwork edits of classic jungle and hardcore tunes that have surfaced this year which were really highlighted by NYC's Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum in his recent mix for FACT. Included on the mix were edits from artists like Phillip D Kick, Distal, Chrissy Murderbot plus a whole slew by Machinedrum himself which became the core of his Ecstasy Boom EP.

The EP was only given away for a week in July to all who bought a copy of his latest album Room(s) but thanks to Machinedrum you can download his edit of Roni Size's 'New Forms' below.

If you want more music like this, check out Phillip D Kick's edit of 'Renegade Snares' below, from his two fantastic  Footwork Jungle releases.

Renegade Snares (Phillip D Kick Edit) - Omni Trio

Both 4-track EPs feature edits of classic tunes by Adam F, Krome & Time and DJ Taktix are available to download for free, Volume 1 and Volume 2.

The third installment from Phillip D Kick is coming soon so keep your eyes peeled.
