Introducing LEON CHASE

Leon Chase is the brainchild of Pasteman and Tanka and is the new outlet for the duo's deeper, darker music. With a release already slated on Overcooked Records in 2012 it looks like things are really going to go off for these guys.

Leon Chase - Do Without You [forthcoming on Overcooked Records]

Until then, here a couple of free remixes by Leon Chase for you to download and dance to.

Featuring THE WEEKND

Canada has had quite a successful year with artists like Jacques Greene, Lunice, Ango and Drake really highlighting North America's untapped musical resource. It's hard in a country that is famous for Ice Hockey, Mounties and Celine Dion to get some serious recognition even if you are signed to a successful label but try doing it on your own with no financial backing.

That is where The Weeknd come in.

D.D - The Weeknd

Abel Tesfaye is the man behind the moniker and with part three of his mixtape trilogy Echoes of Silence available this week, again for free, he has fully gained the attention of the world. Check out the latest release plus Thursday and House of Balloons via The Weeknd website (all for free) and play them for the ladies.

Thursday

Introducing HINGE FINGER

This picture plus a mix were all that appeared on Will Bankhead's Trilogy Tapes blog to announce the launch of his new project with Joy Orbison. Hinge Finger is the name and it's a new label from the Honest Jons group. No releases have been announced, no clue to artists affiliated to the label or even a track-listing for the mix.

Why is this so interesting then? This mix is brilliant. Once again, Joy Orbison lives up to the hype.

Introducing LOCKED GROOVE

It seems that this year there has been very little Hotflush material that we haven't mentioned on the blog, a testament of course to the quality control that Scuba exercises as a label manager. The first release of 2012, and in fact the first release this artist has had, will be in the form of a 12" from Belgium's Locked Groove.

We are informed that Tim van de Meutter hasn't been producing in this style for very long but it is impossible to tell by these three tracks. The nine minute long 'Rooted' signals this as a no-nonsense release. A gentle intro with floating keys soon descends into a brutal and acidic groove, made complete by slightly screechy samples and a steady four to the floor. 'Drowning' leaves any niceties behind and taps into the Berghain links that Scuba has formed over the last couple of years. And finally, a slower and more appeasing track entitled 'Change' rounds off this carefully crafted trio of tunes.

Rooted EP - Locked Groove [forthcoming Hotflush]

It won't be long before you can get hold of these, HFT20 will be available on 16th January 2011 from Juno.

Introducing SHOOTING HORSES

This post has been a long time coming (this isn't the first time Shooting Horses has had a track posted by us) but now we feel it's a fitting time to properly introduce this super tight producer ahead of his debut EP on DubNoir Music.

Today is one of those exciting days when we get to give away a fine piece of dance music, possibly even first ones on the internet to do so. The reason this track is so special is because, not only has it had heavy rotation with serious volume on our own system but whenever we've played this track out someone has asked afterwards what it is. It especially goes down towards the end of a set at about 3am! Bouncy, energetic, catchy etc...

Khrushchev - Shooting Horses

And another freebie which we asked for a special dub version of...

The Way (Shooting Horses Dub) - Purpl Pop

Now onto the other news... January sees a release from SH which features 3 originals and a remix from the ever-so crisp New Zealand brotherly duo Chaos In The CBD - which is highly recommended by us.

Featuring DISCLOSURE

Since we first introduced Disclosure earlier this year, brothers Guy and Lawrence Howard have really started to gain momentum. The London duo put out their debut single Carnival to quite a warm response from DJs and critics alike and they have followed that up with Offline Dexterity plus some serious remixes of Emeli Sande and Q-Tip, giving them some well-deserved air time on Rinse and Radio 1.

Emeli Sandé - Daddy (Disclosure Remix) [Virgin Records]

Their follow up single 'Tenderly' b/w 'Flow' is due out at the end of January on 7" vinyl from Make Mine. The A-side lives up to all expectations but sadly there is no preview for the B-side. However, if you do pre-order the record you can download 'Tenderly' today, giving you a serious incentive to get yourself an early Xmas present.

Disclosure - Tenderly [forthcoming Make Mine]

If you want to hear more from Disclosure you can download the 5-track digital version of the Carnival EP for free through their Facebook page plus there is the fantastic Q-Tip remix below for your downloading pleasure. These guys are tipped for big things so keep it locked.

Q-Tip - Work It Out (Disclosure Remix)

Introducing CLOSE

Close is the latest mysterious side project with no face, and we’re pretty sure it’s coming out of the UK. The internet is so fickle these days this method seems to be the best way to grab an audience and for that audience to actually pay attention for more than 2 seconds.

We’re told that it’s one artist who wishes to remain unidentified with a forthcoming LP named ‘Getting Closer’ which mainly features collaborations etc, some of whom have been named as Scuba, Appleblim and Ewan Pearson.

It’s possible to check three previews on their website and the first track which you can take away with you, is available below.

Crystalfilm (Close Remix) – Little Dragon

Let’s hope the music lives up to big glossy pictures.

Δkkord - Back And Forth

Tuesday

Introducing SHADES OF GREY

Diverse line ups, sell out parties and a couple of talented residents - if anyone's wondering how to enter the London market, that's a pretty good start.

So far Shades of Grey have had the likes of Sigha, Pariah, Randomer and Two Inch Punch grace the decks at their first few events so keep your eye out for future dates plus there's also a record label on the way. The first release, a stand-out 6 track EP, is set for 16th January and is by an artist who goes by the name of Fybe:one. Check it below.

01. Suffocate
02. Harmonic Curve
03. Aeolian
04. So What
05. Kora
06. Enclosed

Harp EP - Fybe:one [forthcoming Shades of Grey]

While you wait for that, get this excellent track from one of their crew, Owen Howells. It's on a misty rolling vibe, all held together by a crisp crack before breaking down and returning with the energy up a level. As it draws to a close, the soundscape is surrounded by electronic lazer sounds as if to effortlessly say, "journey's over now, until next time". One of the best free tracks we've personally been sent in a while. More please.

Caffeine Persuasion - Owen Howells & Stanky

Keep up to date with Owen, Fybe:one and Shades of Grey on Facebook.

Thursday

Introducing ALEX COULTON

After two split releases on Syndrome Z and Horizontal Ground, Manchester's Alex Coulton is going out on his own with his debut EP, Representations on the brand new label All Caps. Three slices of funky, techno-infused house are just what the doctor ordered for this vinyl only expedition which is still available in limited quantities from Juno. Snag a copy before they are all gone.

Alex Coulton - Representations [All Caps]

Friday

Featuring NUMBERS

It has been a big year for Glasgow's own Numbers. With label bosses like Jackmaster and Spencer (to name just two) it's no surprise that they are at the forefront of the Bass scene. With excellent releases this year from artists like Mosca, Jamie XX, DeadboyPierre's Pfantasy Club and Goldffinch accompanying their club nights and RinseFM show things can only really continue to go up.

Randomer - Real Talk EP [Numbers]

This week saw the release of Randomer's debut on the label, the three track barrage that is the Real Talk EP. This sees the DnB producer move away from hits roots and really delve into the ever expanding Techno infused bass music. Things get serious right from the off as the title track kicks in with some seriously hard-hitting drums to accompany a very grimy bassline. Next "Lime Pie" comes up with a little acid to juice up your evening which is followed by another drum heavy track "Stalker". If you like what Blawan has been putting out recently this is definitely going to be up your street.

Sibian & Faun - I'm Sorry [forthcoming Numbers]

Next up for the Numbers crew is a release from Canadian duo, Sibian & Faun who are set to release I'm Sorry, a single track of RnB goodness that is sure to get bodies grinding on the dance floor. In there own words, “In terms of our production ‘I’m Sorry’ marks a turning point. After a summer of making really positive music, winter came and sort of switched things up on us. At the time it was this really dark and intimate track; no synth, no crunchy bass. But we kept coming back to it and it grew.”.

Redinho - Stay Together [forthcoming Numbers]

The labels last release of the year will be Stay Together, a single track teaser taken from next years debut album by Redinho, which from first listen sounds like it's going to be totally insane, in the best of ways.

Both of these single track releases by Sibian & Faun and Redinho are both available digitally and on limited 12" next Monday December 5th from our friends at Juno.

Thursday

Featuring FUTUREBOOGIE

Futureboogie need little introduction. Of late, the Bristol label's unique sound has not so much been knocking on the overcrowded house scene's door as actually smashing it down. They are increasingly venturing out from the comfort of their home town to conquer London and the North, ably assisted by flag bearers that include Bonobo, Bashmore, Crazy P and recent HH mix-men Behling & Simpson.

Futureboogie's most recent release is this 3-track EP, Maison du Cheval - an excellent donation from local Bristol boys and label stalwarts Christophe and Lukas. They join forces on the opening track 'Teardrops' to create a soaring, synthy tune that feels something quite similar to riding an 80s Cheval: different gear.

Teardrops - Christophe & Lukas [forthcoming Futureboogie]

No. 2 is another belter, this time from Lukas on his lonesome. 'Reel Love' has all the right Detroit ingredients but you can't help thinking it's a cut above at least a lot of the rest of recent songs that have been stuck mercilessly into that category. It builds beautifully, driven on by sensational piano riffs and vocals.

Reel Love - Lukas [forthcoming Futureboogie]

Christophe ensures there is no respite with a terrific, deep offering that uses up-and-down piano/xylophone motif and a purposeful, relentless bassline to keep energy levels high right to the end of an EP that gives us a very enjoyable quarter of an hour or so.

Stalker - Christophe [forthcoming Futureboogie]

Keep an eye out for a Futureboogie party near you.

Wednesday

Jack Dixon & Rick Grant - Running Man EP

Jack Dixon & Rick Grant - Running Man EP [Man Make Music]

The second release on George Fitzgerald's Man Make Music label is a collaborative effort by the ever quality Jack Dixon, who we introduced in January last year, and one of TAKE Records head honchos, Rick Grant. These tracks are very different to Dixon's previous releases and the collaboration with Rick Grant really explores the House side to his style.

The title track really is a smooth, synth laden track that is firmly rooted in the Detroit House sound but blended with a 2-step groove that delivers a funky beat you find yourself subconsciously nodding your head to. The second track, "Muted", is a little more vocal driven and having them pitched down gives this a very relaxed vibe that works well with chilled beats and synths.

The addition of a really outstanding remix by Canadian producer Kevin McPhee really does make this a strong second release on the label. Promos are already available at Juno and the digital release is available at Surus this week, with the full release available everywhere else on the 5th of December.

Monday

Featuring AMUS/2562

Dave Huismans has put out quite a lot of music since 2007 under many aliases and on a lot of great labels including Tectonic and 3024. His last couple of releases, however, were on his own new label When In Doubt as 2562 but he is back again as A Made Up Sound to deliver his last release of the year, Take The Plunge.

A Made Up Sound - Take The Plunge (Beats Mix) [forthcoming A Made Up Sound]

The "Beats Mix" of the title track is some serious techno-driven business accompanied by aggressive repeating synths that oscillate from left to right. Under this is some skipping beats, reminiscent of earlier AMUS releases, to help level out the synth movements. This is followed by a slightly off balance track called "Anger Mgmt" that has a bouncing bassline and a slightly broken yet on point break that pulls it along nicely. The third track is a beatless version of the title track to help you come down nice and slow.

Promos are already available on vinyl from Juno with full release on wax and digital set for December 7th.

George FitzGerald - Shackled EP

After starting his own label, Man Make Music, George FitzGerald is back with the Shackled EP for Scuba's Hotflush Recordings. The title track actually appeared recently on the Scuba: DJ Kicks album and gave us all a small preview of Fitzgerald's fifth release, his third on Hotflush.

For the EP, FitzGerald puts together three great tracks layered with sweeping pads, sharp keys and on point vocals snippets all bound together with his own brand of tight House beats.

Shackled EP - George FitzGerald [forthcoming Hotflush Recordings]

This EP is not to be missed and is set for release the first week in December on Hotflush. It will be available from all good music retailers including Juno.

Tuesday

Damu - Unity LP

In recent years Damu has been consistently up there with the best in the business and his unique sound has been hotly tipped in various quarters. His debut album is out now on Martin Clark’s Keysound Recordings, which follows acclaimed releases by LV & Joshua Idehen and Sully earlier this year. Damu has previously only had two physical releases, Ridin EP and Mermaid, so this 60 minute release is a big step for the producer.

Damu exemplifies his unique sound perfectly in Unity, with euphoric climaxes crashing together with vibrant and melodic beats to create a modern and experimental display. 'Ridin’ The Hype’ has to be the masterpiece of the album, with the diction of Trim solidifying the track with a deep and dark vibe. The majority of the tracks are bubbly garage stepping tunes like ‘L.O.V.E’ and ‘After Indigo’, but Damu also shows his depth and development in tracks such as ‘Maths is Fine For Sum’ and ‘Waterfall Of Light’, which gives more of a shuffling house sound, full of deep gear-changing shifts that keep you guessing.

Ridin' The Hype (feat. Trim) - Damu [Keysound Recordings]

Through this LP you can really see the development and progression that Damu has made as a producer. He shows knowledge of chord progression and structural sleight of hand that many of his peers would kill for and I am sure this producer will continue to shock in the future.

Unity LP Preview - Damu [Keysound Recordings]

Unity was released on 17th October and is available via Juno etc.

Monday

HH MIX #026 - BEHLING & SIMPSON

Having recently converted from bass music, this duo have been making serious waves in the House scene after a decision to drop the tempo and try something new. Their relatively recent love for the space available at the lower bpms combined with the aid of the ever growing stronger Futureboogie Recordings has left Behling & Simpson lined up for a strong 2012. We had to get them on our series before it was too late!

Father (B+S Edit) - Julio Bashmore [Futureboogie]

Without You - Behling [Futureboogie]

Their debut solo release 'The Behling & Simpson EP' came out at the start of this month and is available to purchase from the likes of Juno etc. To support this release, 'Play Games' is available for free below.

Sepalcure - Sepalcure LP

It feels like Sepalcure have been around for ages so it seems a little surprising that their self-titled album, forthcoming on Hotflush Recordings, is actually only their fifth release. It really only was in the summer of 2010 that Travis Stewart and Praveen Sharma's debuted as Sepalcure and released the Love Pressure EPseemingly from nowhere, blowing us all away. Together as Sepalcure and separately as Machinedrum and Braille, they have established themselves in the their native USA and here with releases on a variety of top labels including Planet Mu, Rush Hour, LuckyMe and of course Hotflush.

Since their debut we have seen the Fleur EP, the Love Pressure Remixed EP and most recently the Pencil Pimp LP Sampler all come out on Hotflush to great acclaim. These high quality releases really set the bar high and as you would expect there are high hopes for Sepalcure's debut album.

Sepalcure - Pencil Pimp / I'm Alright [Hotflush Recordings]

From the opening moment of 'Me' we are immediately treated to what we know as the trademark Sepalcure dance floor groover complete with a great swinging beat, smooth vocals and haunting synths. After that however, things do take a step forward in a really positive way as they explore and add other sounds and vibes to their music. The second track, "Pencil Pimp", is a perfect example of this, taking components from Classic House and Juke, including those choppy vocal hooks, and blending them with some more familiar, fairly haunting vocals, acoustic guitar and a really tight two step vibe.

After that their influences, highlighted with their own familiar style, bring the album to life and in a direction that is truly refreshing. You'll hear everything from chilled 808 vibes ("Eternally Yrs"), sun-drenched House ("See Me Feel Me"), Funky ("Hold On", "The One") and even some straight up Dubstep ("Yuh Na See") and everything in between as the exploration of the Sepalcure sound is fully expressed. In short, this is a great debut album and has enough depth and variety to warrant multiple listens.

The release date for Sepalcure is November 21st via Hotflush Recordings and is available on Vinyl, CD and digitally. Until then enjoy the flip from the sampler, 'I'm Alright' which was made available for free in the last week.

HH Alphabet T-shirt

We're super pleased to announce our second t-shirt of 2011. This time, our idea, but as usual we left the design down to the very capable Archie McLeish.

The t-shirts are printed on 'Ultra Cotton' to keep you warm during the cold months ahead and like normal we'll be letting you off postage if you reside in the UK. If you're feeling particularly cold, you might want to snap up one of the very limited black crew neck jumpers, which we promise, are worth every penny (there will be a small charge on these for the postage due to their weight).

Either hit one of the photos or click here to go to the shop.

Featuring MIDLAND

Midland is up to his old tricks. Despite his relative inexperience, his versatility has got people calling him a potential successor to Trentemøller... or is it Tensnake... even Four Tet? I forget. All I know is he probably wouldn't enjoy being called anyone's successor.

The youngster's two most recent remixes showcase his burgeoning talent - surely one of the house scenes go-to remix men of the moment. While 'Olson' is a slower, dreamier affair, 'Duvel' is quicker, more purposeful and has a delightfully sinister undertone. For very different occasions, and that is what makes Midland so great. If you haven't already done so, make sure you check out his own productions as well - he already boasts a highly impressive collection.

Olson (Midland Remix) - Boards of Canada

Duvel (Midland Remix) - Lee Jones [forthcoming Aus Music]

Saturday

FaltyDL - Atlantis

NYC's Drew Lustman aka FaltyDL releases his debut EP, Atlantis, with Ninja Tune and it is a sonic journey across the electronic genre. This release expands the ever increasing list of top level labels he has appeared on or remixed for which currently includes Swamp81, Planet Mu, Ramp and Rush Hour.

It is quite clear that the influences that shape this release are from all across the board but you can feel the vibes of classic house and rave on the title track, "Atlantis". This followed by the great "Can't Stop The Prophet" which has that Ninja Tune sound layered with FaltyDL's signature vocal sample madness. The third track, "My Light My Love" takes you somewhere deep inside, with a sample constructed downtempo moment highlighting the variation of styles on show here. The EP closes with "The Sale Ends" which takes us back to the two-step vibes that really put FaltyDL on the map but with a very spaced out twist.

The EP is available digitally and on wax on November 14th from Juno.

GoldFFinch - Red Mask EP

Next week sees the second release from GoldFFinch, Red Mask EP, hot on the heels of last weeks Dirtybird EP for Airflex Labs. Although this is only the second release from the Belgian duo it is highly anticipated after appearing on Jackmaster's Numbers show on RinseFM all summer.

Red Mask - GoldFFinch [forthcoming Numbers]

The title track is a absolutely killer cut and infuses a little acid and electro into the mix to give the track a lot more depth and rhythm. The flip, "Ovale" is quite different however, obviously drawing on techno for its inspiration but in its most stripped back form and fused with some seriously sharp 808-styled beats.

Red Mask EP is set to be released on the 14th of November on vinyl and digitally on Numbers.

Wednesday

Cottam - Deep Deep Down EP

Cottam has described his most recent genre-foray as “sub-aquatic acid house”, a direction evident in his two most recent remixes for Morning Factory [20:20Vision] and Pattern Select [Delusions of Grandeur], as well as his 10-minute epic 'Sunrise Sunset EP'. Indeed, his latest offering definitely lacks the disco chug of some of his previous efforts, notably his fourth and second release. That is not to say, however, that it falls short in many or any other departments- least of all depth. For those who want the floor-filling Cottam of old back, fear not- just expect the floors to be full of slightly more serious folk.

The intro of A-side ‘Deep Deep Down' is full of ominously contrasting bass-synth and cowbell. The floating and haunting melody builds before being rudely awakened by a soaring saxophone. It all kicks off mid-way through the fourth minute as the snare gets involved. I hope you brought your flippers... this is about as sub-aquatic as it gets.

Deep Deep Down - Cottam [Aus]

The B-side, ‘Twang’, has a gloriously menacing bass riff that combines to tribal effect with the hi-hats. Chicago vocals are a nice touch and the sudden changes in intensity, despite the absence of a decisive snare throughout, are very effective. It's a tough call between two very nice tracks.

Twang - Cottam [Aus]

This releases is available on vinyl from Juno and digital exclusively on Beatport for the time being.

LEEDS: This Friday...

After a very special series of events at The Commonplace last year, featuring the likes of Cluekid and Synkro, Dilation have relocated to the Beaver Works just on the outskirts of town.

Strictly not for profit and the brainchild of a close group of friends, trust us when we say the vibe at these nights is something really unique. This time around, we're all too excited about the UKG legend Sunship coming to town! Check out all the details, including how to catch a free bus to the venue, on the event page.

Ango - Another City Now EP

Another City Now is the debut EP from Ango aka Andrew Gordon Macpherson, the next big thing to step out of Monteal, Canada. Ango works closely with with other Candian producers Jacques Greene and Lunice, and has accompanied Jacques on his live European tour. His debut release came out on the 1st November on Scottish label Lucky Me.

This EP is a fusion of late 80’s pop, early 90’s house and contemporary R&B, which delivers a retro feel that’s fresh and vibrant. Ango is a writer and a producer and his 6 track EP is a lyrically polarised section of girl songs that express the way up and the way back down. This record is a fine balance of old and new, vintage but contemporary, upbeat but deep and delivers on every level.

HUSH THE FUCK UP (vol VI)

In April 2009 we dropped the first in this series, 35000 downloads later we're at volume 6. This time we've switched things up a little but not with the style of the mix, as usual, there's an eclectic range of different beats. Some gentle, some a little heavier, but hopefully you'll agree, all are a pleasure on the ears, whether it's in your lounge, kitchen, bedroom, on the road or in the club. Spread the love, tell your friends, burn CDs etc. Most of all, enjoy.

LONDON: This Friday...

North London is getting treated to the sounds of one of the most talented producers to emerge this year on Friday. Ossie blew us away with 'Tarantula' and didn't fail to impress with his more recent Hyperdub EP. The guys from Exhibition have lined up support from the wonderful Casino Times as well as Synamtix from the The Daily Street.

Equally exciting...is that you will be one of the first people able to grab one of our brand new t-shirts, designed in collaboration with Yoghurt Warrior. They're looking extremely fresh - more details to come very soon!

Check out the event page to secure £5 entry.

Featuring SWAMP81

Founded by Loefah in 2009, Swamp 81 has become one of the most forward thinking and popular labels in the UK. With a policy of vinyl-only releases (with the exception of Kryptic Minds' One Of Us album), the limited nature of their releases have only fueled the interest in everything they put out.

During 2010 after fairly standard dubstep releases by Skream, The Bug and Kryptic Minds the label took a very unexpected turn into the more experimental side of the genre. What followed was three great releases from Addison Groove, Ramadanman and Pinch - all of which opened the eyes of many and really paved the way for the label to grow into a boundary pushing force. In particular Addison Groove's 'Footcrab' brought real attention to the label, with it's electro and juke influenced 808's and vocal samples.

Footcrab VIP - Addison Groove

This year has brought about the most popular releases on Swamp81 to date, with contributions from Boddika (one half of Instra:mental), Addison Groove, FaltyDL, Funkbias (aka Zed Bias & Funk Butcher) and one artist who shall remain unnamed. In particular, the mysterious 'Sicko Cell' excelled in making it into every playlist, DJ set, radio show and iPod anywhere. Then where do you go from here you might ask?

Music Deep Inside - Zed Bias [forthcoming Swamp81]

Next from Swamp81 is a four-track EP from Zed Bias which will include the great tracks 'Music Deep Inside', 'Stubborn Phase', 'Reminisce About the Phuture' and 'Basic Needs'. This will be followed closely in November by a 12" from Mickey Pearce, the artist formerly known as Shortstuff. The record will include 'Don't Ask, Don't Get' b/w 'I Am' should drop before the end of the year.

I Am - Mickey Pearce [forthcoming Swamp81]

Other forthcoming projects include the second part of FaltyDL's Mean Streets, the collaboration of Boddika and Joy Orbison on "Swims" and some new material from Blawan including "Hollow It Out". The release timetable for these is, as always with this label, uncertain but be sure to keep your ear to the ground.

Swims - Boddika & Joy O [forthcoming Swamp81]

A few of the releases from this label have been repressed and are available via Juno Records. You can also hear new releases on Loefah's show on RinseFM.

HH MIX #025 - ACTRAISER

After a slight pause, we're back with a special addition to the series, a very impressive all own production mix from the severely underated producer who goes by the name Actraiser. We had a quick chat with him to fill you in if you're unfamiliar.

Tell us a little about yourself...

Hi, I'm Actraiser, an electronic music producer based in Bristol. I specialise in deep dubstep and dubstep techno music but I like to make many other styles of music as well. I've had numerous releases on labels such as Car Crash Set, Sub Depth, Haunted Audio, RedVolume, Stoke Audio, Echodub, Cold Busted, and Gradient Audio. I also have forthcoming material on Pushing Red, Paradise Lost, Pangaea, Levitated and more. I produce deep tracks that maintain a hint of heaviness. I do like to make the odd minimal track but generally I like deep music with a tougher edge, kind of the rough with the smooth really. I think that whatever style I choose to produce, it maintains the Actraiser sound that I aim for.

How long have you been producing?

I've been producing for a while, under different names, but the Actraiser thing has been for about 2 and a half years. In that time I've seen a steady rise in followers. I often wonder if my constantly changing genres confuses people, but I've had lots of great feedback from people who say they enjoy my tracks whatever tempo or style I go for, which is very encouraging and keeps me enthusiastic about trying new things.

Fallen Angel (2011 Rework) - Actraiser

How do you get your music out there?

Soundcloud is a great tool, and has brought to my attention many of the amazing, and often unfairly overlooked, producers out there creating really forward-thinking music that can slip by undetected due to many labels not keen on putting out music that they fear won't sell loads of copies. This is more to do with how hard it is to make money in this day of illegal file sharing and what-not, rather than the guys running the labels not wanting to rock the boat. I've used Soundcloud and AIM to build contacts and get my music heard by the right people, these two things (along with other things like forums and Facebook) have been incredibly valuable to making a name for myself.

Tell us a bit about your release schedule...

Some recent releases include; firstly the Tiger Road EP, which I am very proud of, it's 7 slices of futuristic electronic music that can be filed under many genres, future garage, dubstep, minimal techno. I've heard it described as music you would hear in Fabric in the year 2078, which I thought was a pretty funny, and apt description.

I've also had an LP released very recently called Art of Balance on Cold Busted. This is an eclectic selection of tracks including some trip-hop, jazz funk, funky, future garage and more. It has received enormous love from around the world with DJs such as Danny Rampling, Steve Mac & Darren Emerson playing it and giving props, so that's been really encouraging. It's out on CD & digital now. I also had an EP of 130bpm Riddim tracks out this month too featuring my more dance floor, bouncy production side. Next up though I have some much darker dubstep and dubstep techno music coming out on Paradise Lost, and Pushing Red. Then there's a 4 track tech-house EP on Pangea recordings which showcases my deep house & techno music.

Any shout outs / mentions, or anything we forgot?

For sure, firstly to Vandera whose mixes are so good and inspired me to go back to the drawing board with my own mixes (check his DSF nominated HH mix here). Alex DFRNT who not only produces amazing music but has always been really helpful to me with regards to all sides of the music game. Must also give a shout to my lovely and talented girlfriend Caya who does all the artwork for my releases, she always manages to make something awesome so I will always have her do the art if possible! And of course the obligatory shout out to all the nice people who like my music! Keep the messages coming!

Thanks for your time.

SQUARE ONE 004

It seems like things are coming around so quickly at the moment! Only a few weeks after Canblaster ventured into the depths of Wire, Jo Kira and Remé are bringing someone else across the channel for their monthly Square One night.

Since the release of the Arma EP last year it is fair to say French Fries has taken the UK Bass scene by storm. With appearances on RinseFM and the Boiler Room already under his belt and with the Clek Clek Boom label finding its feet, this is yet another Leeds debut that you shouldn't miss!

Joompa - TOYC [MIMM]

Support comes from the up and coming TOYC who has more than enough tunes to get the dance moving. The boys from Greyscale Sessions and MC Descry complete a lineup that can't be sniffed at for only £6.

Check out the facebook event and grab your tickets in advance.

Tuesday

11/11/11

Our friends over at PYC Sessions have yet another exciting prospect ahead of them, as Mindset Records lay down something a little different from your usual Friday night activities. All taking place in a converted farm complex deep in North Wales, 11/11/11 is set to deliver three rooms of the finest underground music.

The Manchester institution that is Hoya:Hoya take charge of the second room and if Illum Sphere's recent Boiler Room set is anything to go by this could well be the highlight. PYC take full control over the third room by bringing Troy Gunner and boy wonder Ifan Dafydd to the party.

Check the event page for more details and grab your £8 tickets pronto!

Featuring ELIPHINO

We've been waiting very patiently for this one, but finally Eliphino's latest work is about to drop on Somethink Sounds.

'I Played' takes things in a darker, techno-tinged direction and 'Devoted' has beats mildly reminiscent of dubstep's glory days. Admittedly though, the rest of the release plays second fiddle to the title track, 'More Than Me' - a deep house roller with a wonderfully engineered and touching vocal sample. Just a little bit of everything we like here at Hush and undoubtedly Eliphino's best work to date.

More Than Me - Eliphino [forthcoming Somethink Sounds]

To tide over these last few weeks before the release, head over to XLR8R to download his own rework of the killer title track. Hit him up on Twitter and Facebook then grab the EP from Juno from 31st October.

Bangs & Works

Before Planet Mu put out their Bangs & Works Vol. 1 there were not many people who had ever heard of the Chicago street music phenomenon that is Footwork. Now with it's influence spreading through the Bass music scene it seems only appropriate that the same label gives us a second volume to work to.

Heaven Sent - DJ Rashad & Gant-Man [Planet Mu]

Bangs & Works Vol. 2 brings us the cream of the Chicago scene after sifting through the endless stream of music flowing of the area. This volume features Planet Mu regulars Rashad & Spinn plus a whole host of newcomers including Boylan and Traxman.

You can preview all the rest of the album tracks and pre-order the compilation here. You can also grab a copy to the accompanying EP Ghettoteknitianz from Juno which came out last week.

Friday

Featuring ED DAVENPORT

With releases dating back to 2006, Berlin based Ed Davenport has been turning a few heads this year back home in the UK. Since signing for the legendary house label NRK Sound Division in 2010 he has put out two great Techno infused EP's for them, Curtain Call and the hard-hitting More Red Lights.

More Red Lights (Club Mix) - Ed Davenport [NRK]

New Yorkshire, the first single from his forthcoming debut album Counterchange, follows on from his previous releases and continues to refine his sound, really bringing it up to the highest level. The mixes of 'New Yorkshire' gives a classic house twist to the ever expanding Berlin techno sound with heavy analog beats and warm textured synths. The non-abum track 'Testament' moves into even deeper house territory with a great piano and synth driven track that would be perfect at any 6am after party.

New Yorkshire (Club Mix) - Ed Davenport
[forthcoming NRK Sound Division]

The EP also sees two remixes from NYC's Fred P and NRK label boss, Nick Harris. Both remixes take on a life of their own with Fred P providing an NYC/Detroit fusion of minimalised synths, crisp beats and sharp vocal hits. The remix by Nick Harris also strips the track down but really gives it a shot in the arm with some dark synths and a jacked up beat providing the EP with the most Berlin sounding tune of all.

Ed Davenport's New Yorkshire EP is set for release in late October / early November followed by the album in early 2012, both on NRK Sound Division.

Wednesday

Featuring MAURICE DONOVAN

If it wasn't hard enough to keep up with the huge volume of quality music that David Kennedy puts out under his Ramadanman and Pearson Sound aliases, here comes Maurice Donovan again.

So far a pretty nice remix of 'Battle For Middle You' by Julio Bashmore and the fantastic Babeh 12" on the reborn SSSSS label has been all we've heard from Maurice Donovan.

However, at the end of last week a quite unexpected single-sided vinyl-only release appeared on Phonica from him titled Call My NameFollowing the Chicago house vibe of his previous releases, "Call My Name" has an addictive bassline and vocal sample that have you subconsciously singing "Just call out my name" in no time.

Call My Name - Maurice Donovan [White Label]

Quite simply, this is the best thing that has come out under the Maurice Donovan moniker, so grab a copy while you can.

Video Games - Joy Orbison Remix

Shelter - Essáy Edit

Essáy has dropped two serious productions for free download in the past week or so. This one tops the last, at 106bpm and 10 minutes long, it ticks all the boxes. Colourful, emotional and most importantly, a fine piece of music for the ears' listening pleasure. Credit to Birdy for providing such beautiful vocal too.

Shelter (Essáy Tearful Edit) - Birdy

This one's had a lot of attention on his soundcloud, if you aren't already following, well, you should be.
