Rozcar Roh-scar ROSKA

I have a strong feeling this man going by the name of Roska is about to be huge. I started to get inclinations when nearly every remix package that was dropping in the box contained one of his. Then I got Martyn's Fabric.50 CD through the post and it contained two more of his tracks. I had to check his myspace for more info and it turned out I'm just completely not in the know about this genius! He's already got hundreds of releases on Beatport and heavily involved with one of most up-to-date music nights in London, FWD>>>.

Every production has very prominent drum beats giving each a lively bouncy feel, not to mention the on point production. This is then combined with some catchy synth line or moving bassline so you end up with a very listenable, enjoyable, fresh sound. Fresh to me that is, some of you it might not think so! I get the feeling this music is called Funky but does anyone else get a gay vibe off that name? Let's not call it that. It's all just House music innit. I've come to terms with that.

Here's a couple of freebies so you can fully understand...

Hey Cutie - Roska
Bangkok (Roska Remix) - Boris Dlugosh

Go check out all the releases on Beatport and look forward to his Four Tet remix which I think I prefer to Joy Orbison's - out on vinyl already I think.

why are you using gay as a derogatory term? you wouldn't exactly use "black" as a cuss word would you? it's like racism is a fucking no go but homophobia is ok. not suprised at the lack of intellect though...

can music journalism sink any lower than refusing to acknowledge genre names because they sound 'gay'? . ]

are you two genuinely serious?
both of you assume that he means 'gay' in a negative context

it sounds like you have a personal vendetta against Hush House

i think its pretty obvious that the writer means gay in a negative context: "get the feeling this music is called Funky but does anyone else get a gay vibe off that name? Let's not call it that."

No personal vendetta here, just lazy journalism.

pretty good at quoting their Ben
props!

you assume that using the word gay implies that it's bad
I can equally interpret it as just simply another adjective
neither good, nor bad

this is a ridiculous accusation to begin with

i think that's exactly the problem though, you don't see it as negative. you don't generally disregard something because it's good do you?

The word 'gay' has officially been affirmed as OK to use as it is in no way homophobic, just a synonym for 'rubbish', according to the BBC:

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/article671972.ece

however, the report also comes to the conclusion that the insult is only really used by school children...

probably not so much by those attempting journalism, such as this gay blog

There's no other way to describe the word Funky. I was not describing the scene or the type of music. Just the word.

I used "gay" in a way such so as the double entendre would come across. The critics have picked up on the negative meaning which is exactly why I said let's not call it - this is what someone not in the know would pick up on straight off. This does not portray the scene or the type of music well.

For those not familiar with the other meanings of the word gay - please go find a dictionary.

I'm not attempting Journalism. I couldn't do English at school. Intellect however doesn't come into this.

Thank you for your comments. If you are still feeling strongly about this issue please email us.

while your asking us to look up definitions, the definition of journalism is:

"Written material of current interest or wide popular appeal."

Blogging is most definitely journalism, whether you're good at it or not.
