Featuring A MADE UP SOUND

Livity Sound is racing through 2014 in much the same way as last year, gaining a vast number of fans by releasing its very own distinctive brand of tribal, totemic house. The momentum doesn't cease, with the label's remix series presenting two remixes of Asusu's 'Velez' by none other than A Made Up Sound aka 2562.

The perfect candidate to rework 'Velez', in his first remix, the Dutchman applies the sort of growling, bassy manoeuvres we've become accustomed to, albeit smattered with an oddly-hypnotic, disconcerting chime, which dips in and out of the entire track. The whole thing's gritty and full of life, embodying the characteristic AMUS swing, but retaining the unique texture that typifies the Livity Sound vibe.

Remix number two is a darker, and more cavernous affair, which ups the tempo and intersplices reverberating tribal-drums with zippy synth stabs. The latter are turbo-charged with static energy and the whole track feels as if it's ready to leap from its source - a flurry of electrons imbued with the power of some seriously shady juju.

Velez (A Made Up Sound Remixes) - Asusu [Livity Sound]

Two stunning reworks of an excellent tune as Livity Sound moves from strength to strength. Do the right thing and support the crew at Idle Hands.

A Made Up Sound plays at Soup Kitchen in Manchester on 24th May.

Featuring BRACKLES

Just in time for the summer months, Serani's 2008 dancehall tune 'No Games' gets the freshest of UK Funky reworks from London's Brackles. The manipulation of the acapella fits perfectly alongside flittering percussion and big synth work, but it's the vocal itself that makes this one sound really special. If you like this vibe, it would be well worth checking out his remix of Cassie's 'Me & You' in this post.

Catch Brackles from 3-5pm every Thursday on Rinse FM.

Featuring YOGHURT WARRIOR

Our good friend Jimmy, aka Yoghurt Warrior, has been going from strength to strength as a designer, being commissioned for collaborative pieces for Gottwood Festival, all artwork and clothing for the new 'Pigeon Hole This!' label, as well as the official tee for Rusko and Doorly's forthcoming tour.

In recent weeks we have seen the launch of a slick new website, showcasing a new range inspired by tribal and aztec influences, aiming to inject something fresh and vibrant as the Summer approaches. Having spent the last year as part as part of the Get Hype Collective under the name of Shark Bait, he is accompanying the drop of the new range with his debut production as Yoghurt Warrior. The track, 'Jumanji', begins with sounds of birdsong and tribal vocals, before introducing chimes and diving purple synths, all of which combine to create the same sense of the fresh, exotic outdoors that the clothing takes its inspiration from. Check it out below and get your hands on some threads while stocks last at the online store here.

COUNTER CULTURE AND PELSKI PRESENT PART 2

For those of you whose tastes extend to the tropical and tech-house arenas, the 18th December sees the second part of a collaborative night organised by the Jackmode Agency and our friends at You Can Call Me Pelski in London. I hear from first hand sources that the first night was a big success, and this may well be your last chance to experience the two Funktion 1 systems they've got down at the temporary Counter Culture club before it is taken down for New Year. Impressively, they have managed to surpass the acts they had for the first installment, with none other than Made to Play boss, Jesse Rose, heading up the bill. Zombie Disco Squad and Oliver $ offer some exciting support in the main room, while Jet Project are set to tear it up with the Pelski boys in Room 2.

Tickets are cheap in advance (£8 for earlybirds and £12 thereafter), not bad at all for one of the last chances for a big pre-Christmas outing in the capital. Pick yourself up one here, and check below for some of what to expect from the legendary Jesse Rose:

Garden (Jesse Rose Remix) - Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs [192]

PELSKI PRESENTS

Our friends over at the evergreen You Can Call Me Pelski blog return tomorrow night for the second instalment of their Pelski Presents nights, showcasing a sophisticated mix of house, dubstep and techno. Its free before 10 and only £5 after and they've got a cool venue in the Big Chill House so all you Londoners get yourselves down there tomorrow night. Be sure to check out the facebook event, and see below for the mp3s their headliners are giving out.

'After the smash hit success of the first 'Pelski Presents' - Darkly and Pelski are back with a showcase of deep tribal infused house and snappy 2-step. The critically acclaimed Jet Project (from Booka Shade's Get Physical) brings the sub-aquatic sounds of dubbed up tech-house, whilst Fabric resident Mackaveli will be turning us over with his usual mix of twisted 2-step and sharp techno cuts. London's 'Troublevision' kingpins Solid Gold & Park Ranger, will be taking us on an en vogue eclectic session to the early hours. And it's FREE if you head down to the Big Chill before 10pm. Just grab a tube to king's Cross and you're there...'

ARROWS TO THE SKY !!!

ARROW !!!

Electro/Glitchy/Breaks/Tribal

This being the non stop electro steam train otherwise known as ARROW !!! – undoubtedly one of my favourite producers.

It has been a busy couple of years for Arrow, firstly the release of his D.O.E.S EP which received a sterling response from the likes of I-DJ and DJ Mag - both rating it a much deserved 5/5. It also included a remix from the well known French man Breakbot. Go check it at Beatport.

D.O.E.S (Night Facilities Remix) – ARROW !!!

Next, the fantastic Pro 7 remix which made a big impression on the Beatport charts - number 1 for a bit if I remember rightly and the vinyl was 3rd on Juno. One review went:

“Now this remix is stunning! Apart from being a stand up gentleman with a clever name, ARROW !!! delivers in spades on this mix. It's dark, tribal, dirty, electroey, edit-happy, and whatever the fuck else you could want in a tech-funky house tune. The long climbing build before the first break is well done, and when it drops… I made the holy shit face! Like, I don’t really know how to describe this tune other than cock hardening. It's the shit. Hands down... the shit.” NSB

Dyslexic Disco (ARROW !!!’s Technically Ill Mix) – Pro 7 [RUDEEE]

Also not to forget this absolutely massive Rogue Element remix which also clinched a top ten position in the Beatport Electronica Chart on it’s release.

Panic Attacks (ARROW !!!’s Jack Tech Remix) – The Rogue Element

But most importantly he is the founder of East London’s most jackin’ free club night "Superfilth" which started back in March ‘07. Superfilth has played host to some of rudest DJs on the planet, and has got a monster of a headliner for its party in February… “J@c*B_a^t#” - BIG!!

SUPERFILTH !!!

2009 looks promising with plans to release a second EP relatively soon and as he claims “Arrow gets his work done properly and on time!!!” Keep your eyes peeled for this one.

Please Yourself (ARROW !!! Remix) – Machine
Duckalicious (ARROW !!!’s Dry Carnival Mix) - Madox

Cheeky little mash/mix up?

Pills Of Nazareth – ARROW !!!

Twisted Minimal?

Techno. Techno. Tech. Techno.

Open your ears - don’t be scared off by the title. Be adventurous. I dare you.

If you haven’t heard of Mowgli then I probably say you’ve been missing out. This is the kinda music I associate with trendy Shoreditch-goers but perhaps this is just a strange misconception which I have in my head. Solo and Mowgli, both with releases on DeadFish Records have a unique sound, kinda minimal crossed with tribally breaks crossed with electro crossed with – I dunno. Check it.

Alma Gitana – Mowgli
Roll Off (Solo Remix) – Cornershop [RUDEEE]

Solo’s We Are The Midgets EP was out at the end of November so go pick it up here.

This one is on a similar kinda level but without the same energy and distinctive squarking bass. See? Maybe not. Nice though.

Eat The Positive (Smash TV Remix) – Terry Toner

I wouldn’t really call Mowgli or Solo minimal at all but they fit under this title better than electro or dubstep! So while on the subject, this is an older remix but it is wicked good like.

Lazy (Mowgli Wobblin’ Mix) – X-Press 2
Smoke Machine (Solo Remix) – X-Press 2

Mowgli also has a Minimal-Tech side project which he goes under the name of MINIMOW. If I had any of these tunes, I would share - unfortunately this is not the case.

Now. I learnt of Tim Green from the Audio Bullys’ Flickery Vision EP which is filled with lovely remixes but, I think the original does it best for me. Go buy it here. Whenever I listen to this song, I have this image of a hare or something bounding across fields with knee length grass and dandelions as the night draws in - with this as the soundtrack. Weird. Despite that, it rolls along very nicely. This might be how you're feeling at about 4am New Years Day!

Flickery Vision (Tim Green Remix) – Audio Bullys
Feign – Tim Green

This was one of Curb Crawlers' remixes of the year. I’m not so sure about that but it definitely needs a listen or two. Claude VonStroke you’ll all remember was that one who did the original of Who’s Afraid Of Detroit? before the Stanton Warriors made it unforgettable. Chilled.

War Paint (Claude VonStroke Remix) - Poxymusic

Perhaps all this is Tech-House? I hate the word/label House so let’s not call it that.

Completely off the general gist of this post but may take your ears some time to get into. I was reminded yesterday by someone saying something about indie-electro. Different but, were a popular choice in the summer. I dig lots. Happy happy happy.

Did U Wrong (Stealthdisco Skimix) – The Clik Clik
Seasnake (Stealthdisco Remix) – Cleft Palettes

Check The Clik Clik myspace – a friend of a friend’s band. Please would you shut up about your dunks?

I was gonna stick some Riva Starr in here as well cos I’m liking his stuff lots at the moment and it’s kinda twisted minimal but there’s plenty here to keep you busy till ’09. I'll do a post on him soon.

Have a wonderful party wherever it may be. Don’t do anything your mother wouldn’t like. Ha.

safe t.
