Pirate that system...

Pirate Soundsystem have been up there with my favourite producers for a good couple of years now and I’m always excited to hear new stuff from them. The new stuff this time is an EP coming out in a couple of weeks on Coin Operated Records who have had the likes of Kanji Kinetic, L-Vis 1990, Squire of Gothos to name just a few. The EP is titled “Trip II London” which has four tracks, each to a different style but all based around ravey samples and big basslines. Ideal. It’s only a vinyl release at the moment but hopefully that’ll change.

The first track is an updated version of their Si Begg remix which we featured in this post - there’s an interview there too for those who don’t know. It’s been mastered and the bassline fattened up to make it an even bigger banger than before. They’ve treated you readers well, again, by making you the first on the internet to have this track, it’s got samples from a few tunes but mainly Tiga’s Mind Dimension. Enjoy.

01. Trip II London
02. Get Your Heads Out
03. Think I’m Ready
04. My Dimension

Make sure all you twitterers go follow them at http://twitter.com/piratesoundsys for updates and stuff.

Introducing TLGB

I was in a really bad mood/tired after work today and not really up for a Friday night out but after listening to these four tracks from The Living Graham Bond I am quite literally Ready For The Weekend. I first heard of this guy when he won the AC Slater Hello remix competition due to the fact that his track is completely different from the original and very bright and bubbly. Check it.

Hello! (TLGB Remix) - AC Slater

I wanted to introduce him properly, unfortunately the emails kinda fizzled out a while ago but after discovering from his myspace that a few other remixes were on blogs I thought it's time for a post! Happy bouncy bubbly basslines for when you need a break from the normal heaviness. The "You're Not Alone" track has been given another life...

Tonight's Today (TLGB Remix) - Jack Penate
You're Not Alone (TLGB Remix) - Olive
Music Sounds Better With You (TLGB Remix) - Stardust

His first release "Just Getting Started" was on Venga's Made In 2010 compilation so pop over to Beatport and support a very worthy cause. Watch out and have a lovely weekend, be it at Latitude or Glade or whatever else is going on.

Monday

Party and bullshit...

So I haven't posted properly for a week, bad huh?! Nevermind. (Not that the Boogaloo post doesn't count a proper post). There's been way more exciting stuff going on. Now, we've a fair amount of Dubstep recently so I've decided I think a little break is necessary. To start with we have a couple of bouncy tracks from the well known Rogue Element and Hostage.

Soundboy - Hostage
Medicine (The Rogue Element Remix) - Cagedbaby

Found this the other day by complete accident but this just empahsises to me why I rate Zombie Disco Squad a lot. Simple but effective. Are you a jacker?

Banton Boot - Zombie Disco Squad

This tune, well, Kidda is just sick. But... you'll all remember Herve's remix of their Under The Sun from last summer, this could be the replacement. HeavyFeet on point as usual. Unfortunately it's not the full track but you'll get the idea. Reckon it's getting a release or summink.

Strong Together (Heavyfeet Remix) - Kidda
This Time (Heavyfeet Remix) - DJ Antoine

And the last of this Electronic kinda stuff, these two are proper party tunes. NROTB remix is well put together, rolling bassline, ravey riffs and good use of the original vocals while the Blatta & Inesha remix is faster paced but still stuffed full of the ravey riffs. Rampage's War EP is now out on Beatport so go check the rest of it.

Hey You (NROTB Remix) - Pony Pony Run Run
War (Blatta & Inesha Remix) - Rampage

Zodiac Cartel's DJing and production doesn't fail to impress and think this might be my favourite Bulletproof remix.

L.E.S Artistes (Zodiac Cartel Remix) - Santigold
Bulletproof (Midfield General Remix) - La Roux

No Dubstep? Well, you might wanna pick up this up if you haven't already. More fresh sounds from Joker.

Everything Up (Joker & Ginz Remix) - Zero 7

You can now buy the two Boogaloo tracks which I posted about below here.

MONSTROSITY!

FACEBOOK EVENT

That line up is not one to be missed! Get down to The Arches for a super good night. I've got exams so I can't make it but has anyone seen the line up for the Mad Decent party the week before? HUGE! I'll be at that one. Come visit!

Speaking of trouble, this track is one of the loveliest tracks I've heard for a while. Steady beat, bongo drums and a very very soothing voice. Marina has got competition! The Nadastrom boys have made it a little more of what we'd normally listen to, but... this blog is all about broadening your music taste and discovering new tracks/artists. That's the best thing about music! Well, I think so anyways...

Trouble Is A Friend (Eli Escobar Remix) - Lenka [RUDEEE]
Trouble Is A Friend (Nadastrom Remix) - Lenka

Hostage has delivered once again, and this time it's for all the people associated with this blog. Ha. Dubby Clubsteppy stuff. Check the Saxon rip off vocals.

Rudeboys - Hostage

Evil Nine has come out of hiding and it's clear he's been in the darkness. This a deep rocky track but with a kinda poppy Calvin Harrisy twist on it - don't let this put you off, there's not that much resemblance! It's nicely produced and makes a change to the listening to all the samey stuff. Also just incase you missed this splendid squelchy screetchy remix of They Live!

Icicles (Evil Nine's Graveyard Smash) - Evil Nine
They Live! (Felix Cartal Remix) - Evil Nine

Back to usual whirring kinda fidgetty stuff. Larry Tee's had the makeover by the ever growing Mom & Dad. Seems like it was only the other day I was listening to his demo stuff. I think he's had a couple of releases already.

My Pussy (Mom & Dad Remix) - Larry Tee

Haven't heard a new Bird Peterson track for a while but that doesn't matter cos it's worth the wait. Apparently he didn't like music until he heard his own...! I don't know what that says about his personality but that doesn't matter. This has a bit of a Fake Bloody bassline when it drops. Nah mean. Can't wait to see Fake Blood, been waiting a while now. 2 weeks. Yeh.

Skeletons (Bird Peterson Remix) - Felix Cartal

Now we all know Blatta & Inesha from this post and also for being straight up Sicilian brilliance so I thought I'd update you with the latest tracks. AC Slater named them in his top artists in a sick interview over at Rub-A-Dub-Dubbb. Check it.

Blatta & Inesha Update

Another update for your ears, I've been holding these tracks in for a super post and here's exactly the right time for it! I know some of you may have picked some of them up already but I thought it'd be easiest to stick em all together, just delete the ones you already have! I've been picking up his tunes for nearly a year n half now and he's come a super long way. Pretty much every track he comes out with now is top notch! Also check back for an introduction to what the other half of Partyshank is up to these days. It's good I promise!

A1 Bassline Update [RUDEEE]

If that's not enough for you, check Palms Out for their latest release which includes another lovely Doorly remix (which you should all go and buy the 320 of cos I'm going to) and some more from A1 Bassline. And anyone remember this from back in the day of Remix Sunday? Sick bassline.

Never Before (Zombie Disco Squad) - Ghost Frequency

Sorry there are no links in but that's the thing which takes the longest with a post. If you need a myspace or some more info on an artist, Google's your friend!

Wednesday

Most important...

Sorry for the lack of proper posts in the last few days but you should be taking notice of these flyers and making plans to attend! This Friday is the most important of all, not just because we're hosting the bar room at 93Ft East and have got a sweet headliner BUT, it's FREE! We all like free stuff hey?

If you haven't heard of Pirate Soundsystem before then check this comprehensive interview for what they're all about. And, they've given us this bassliney track which I don't think you'll find anywhere else.

She Loves Me (Pirate Soundsystem Remix) - Carvadeya & Jeeday Jawz

This is my favourite track they've done, and I think it summarises them to a T. Lots of bass, chopped up samples and overall a well put together track. Check their myspace for their edit of Tiga's "Mind Dimension" which I've been waiting to get for ages!

Non Stop Cut Paste (Pirate Soundsystem Remix) - Si Begg [RUDEEE]

"We will be playing a set of music best described as Berlin via Romford, with bits of rave, heavy bass and squelchy house sounds, maybe a touch of Dubstep if the pink bar speakers can handle it. Table dancing rave!"

I'm looking forward to it immensely and urge as many of you readers to come along and join the party. Facebook event.

You know when you're at someone's house and the party vibes are flying, you wanna listen to some decent new music but don't wanna keep changing/choosing the song on the iPod...? This is when it's time for this half hour of brilliance!

What seems to be the trouble...?

Tuesday

Update...

Sorry for the lack of posts in the last few days, have been floating around London without internet access. Got back from Canada on Thursday, slightly earlier than expected but tis all good. Celebrated with a pretty heavy night at Trouble Vision on Friday which was something special. Corsica Studios is a sweet underground club with nothing fancy other than a sick soundsystem and the feel of a large scale house party.

Andy George was the highlight, banging out some massive tunes combined with some tight mixing. Toddla T was a slight disappointment but this may have been something to do with the state he was in. Anyways, for all those that missed this one, check April's edition - the line up is full to the brim with big names catering for a variety of different needs. The flyer is in the side panel a little further down.

Since the posts have been rather spare recently I've decided to do a quick update with the best of what we've been sent (or randomly picked up) in the last couple of months. I'm sorry if we haven't managed to get a proper feature up but either we decided that the tunes didn't quite make the cut or it's just down to plain rubbishness. If you pick up a tune that you like or discover a new artist make sure you follow up by checking the myspace or even Beatport for any releases.

Dance Dance Dance (Clueless Remix) - Lykke Li Dubstep

No One Would Riot For Less (Clueless Remix) - Bright Eyes Chilled Dubstep

Hometown Glory (Clueless Remix) - Adele Chilled Dubstep

Crash & Demolish - Konscious Dubstep

More posts shortly. But in the meantime check the bonus preview of this track, can't wait for the full length version to drop:

Let's Get Ravey!

A1 Bassline sent us over his new remix which we can share with you...

Work It Out (A1 Bassline Remix) - Esser

Sorry for lack of posts but the internet here in Canada is pretty temperamental - to make up for it, here are some pretty bouncy ravey tracks which you should probably have a listen to. The music can do the talking.

My Punk (Jokers Of The Scene Remix) - The Subs
Let Me Be Your Fantasy (TMX Remix) - Baby D
We Belong Together (TMX Remix) - Varga Zsuzsa [RUDEEE]
Meddle (AC Slater & DJ Skeet Skeet Remix) - Little Boots

RAFFERTIE

Myspace

Hailing from the south coast of England but now based in Birmingham, Raffertie is the 21 year old DJ and producer whose innovative and down right filthy style has been smashing up the UK’s underground dance music scene for the last couple of years.

Raffertie has quickly become a firm party favourite across the UK. His sets include everything from uplifting pop classics and 90’s rave anthems to the filthiest house, garage, grime and dubstep tracks, creating huge dance floor reactions that earned him a residency at Hold Tight in London.

Alongside his DJing exploits, Raffertie’s productions have received much acclaim. Following a set of renowned bootlegs that ply all manner of tunes with sickening wonky basslines, it was his original productions that caught the attention of some big names. Starkey championed the twisted rumbling monster ‘ANTISOCIAL’ on his Sub.FM show and Mary Anne Hobbs picked up the distorted, devastating beats of ‘Stomping Grounds VIP’. She was so impressed that she invited Raffertie to do a guest mix as part of her showcase of up and coming talent, describing him as "as sick as they come".

Having just dropped his first EP (Do That/Boy Better Know) and with forthcoming releases on the Planet Mu and Seclusiasis labels as well as official remixes for The Rogue Element and Food For Animals, Raffertie will no doubt be one to watch in 2009.

Many questions have been asked about the origins of those scissors in his logo, and without any definitive answers from the man himself we’re left wondering whether they represent his cutting edge tracks, or his slicing and dicing of all genres to create that insane party style. Perhaps he just likes arts and crafts. Whatever he likes you need to get some of this bass laden filth down your ears.

Here we have a brand new track for you...

Mutumbo (Raffertie's Bigger Bass Remake) - Food For Animals

Couple of originals

Do That - Raffertie
Stomping Grounds - Raffertie (go pick the VIP up here)

Oh and the tidy little mix which he did recently for Mary Anne Hobbs' show.

2. Ini Kamoze - Hotstepper (Raffertie's Remix) (Dubplate)
3. Raffertie - Stomping Grounds VIP (On The Brink Recordings)
4. Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Raffertie Re-Dub) (Dubplate)
5. Raffertie - ANTISOCIAL (Seclusiasis)

You know it's hard to please a woman...

Egyptrixx

...she'll put you on your knees and make you cry.

Egyptrixx who we've heard from before (in this post) has just excelled himself with this banging new bassline version of Esser.

Satisfied (Egyptrixx Remix) - Esser [RUDEEE]

I'd also highly recommend this from Toddla T & Ross Orton.

P.S This is coming from Canada so thought I'd show you what went down today...

Egyptian Gash

Egyptrixx

Grizzzzzzle.

The up n coming Egyptrixx, just sent over this brand new screaming monster taken from his forthcoming All That Jelly EP out on Vicious Pop Records in Jan/Feb time. His sound definitely isn’t just bassline though, anything bass heavy! He fits into the same scene as Kanji Kinetic, and every song’s a different mixture between dubstep/bassline/electro/garage – the later stuff pushing more and more onto the dubstep scene. All bouncy goodness with lots of energy. Definitely check their myspaces for more examples of their BIG playful, bassy sounds.

“Egyptrixx walks a thin line between Ghettotech, Jackin’ House, Bassline and Dubstep.”

Use Magic To Kill Death – Egyptrixx
Kevin Costner Mixtape – Egyptrixx
The Power (Kanji Kinetic) – Snap!
Running Away (Kanji Kinetic) – Space Cowboy

I first heard about Kanji Kinetic this time last year, now pretty big in the bass scene but I think he’s gonna get even bigger. Get his Bakemono & Shock Tactics EPs – they’re well good innit.

Next I have to thoroughly recommend buying the Foreign Beggars Hit That Gash Remixes EP (out on vinyl 2nd February). It comes with 9 remixes and pretty much every one is a goody. I’d also recommend their other albums if you haven’t already discovered them, and like little a bit of Hip Hop. I saw these boys for the first time in November while I was visiting a friend at Leeds – small venue and it was rammed. I see the Foreign Beggars as the top dogs in the UK Hip Hop scene. Clever lyrics, good beats and a bouncy live show – which then halfway through drops into dubstep to make it even better. Don’t really know much about Hip Hop, but I do know that UK is a lot better than American! Well, that’s just my opinion of course.

Gash is up there with some of the most horrible words in our vocabulary – along with clunge and cunt (I don’t see a problem with cunt but lots of girls disagree!), but here we have to love it. Here’s a dirty Dubstep re-rub from DJ Primecuts (watch out for his productions in ’09) and a filthy Electro remix from Kid Dub.

The Widdler Exclusive

Not quite. Sorry to have mislead you slightly but I'm not sure there is or ever should be such a thing. We do have one little exclusive though which I don't think you'll find too easily anywhere else. Hype.

"Maaaaaaate, have you heard of the Crookers mate? Ah yes – Day n’ Nite? What an absolute tuuuuuuune mate." Bla bla blaaaaa. Tis the only downside of blogs. If a song is gonna get big it gets big about 8-10 months too late for my liking. Now everyone is playing/talking about that song I’m fucking sick of it! Especially on daytime radio, is that really necessary? Oh well I spose that's just the way the world goes round and the music industry works. Anyways, mate…

…have you heard of this thing called baaaaassssline? So schweeeeeeet mate.

Stick these in your native ears.

Day n’ Nite (Agent X Remix) – Kid Cudi
We Getting’ Crunk – HeavyFeet
Give Me What I Want (Party Sausage Remix) - KIGH

Myself, I’m not a huge fan of bassline but when the odd nicely produced one pops out, well… I like it.

Dubsteppin’ snowmen? What ever next. While we’re on topic, The Widdler who you’ve already had a flavour of in this post, based in New Jersey (which I believe is somewhere over the Atlantic from this small island) has just sent over this tidy version. Chilled. We hope there’s more to come.

Day n’ Nite (The Widdler Dubstep Remix) – Kid Cudi
Monkey Business - The Widdler

Didn’t like this JOTS edit at first but after a couple of weeks in the car, has grown on me. Plus, Crookers shouldn't get all the credit - www.myspace.com/kidcudi.

Day n’ Nite (Jokers of The Scene Remix) – Kid Cudi

Hmm next - maybe going back on what I just said but, for those of you who missed this, but picked up the “Jack Got Jacked” (you might have missed that too? Buy it here) - here is a fidgety arrangement of noises from one of the masters.

Who’s That (Jack Beats Remix) - Trip

New, banging breaksie electro to keep you going. Loud for sure.

The Lock Shot – Goshi Goshi

BIG FAT TROUBLE draws closer. Ahhh yeh, should have a post on this in the next few days. I’m hearing the tickets are getting scarce. No regrets. Not only one of the best line ups I’ve seen for a while, but, Fibs & Thade will be warming up the silent disco from 10-1. Get involved.

safe.
