You been dancing with the devil...

Dark Sky never fail to impress. Latest news is that their 'Crystalised' remix is finally available to buy, get it at Boomkat or Juno. Also they have a forthcoming EP with Black Acre which should be out around Christmas time.

Their latest remix is being used by Ninja Tune to promote the forthcoming Stateless single which is out on 22nd November, in anticipation of the album, which is out in February next year. The single 'Ariel' also features remixes by Rustie and Midland. Dark Sky on a proper bouncy 2-step flex here but with their own flavour added as always. All you need is your email address...

Ariel (Dark Sky Remix) - Stateless

Synkro is another one of my favourite producers. Think this tune is quite an old tune but still a goody. Harp patterns slide over a skippy beat and humming sub-line with the odd injection of something a bit nastier.

Back Then - Synkro

I hadn't heard of The Spit Brothers until recently but they seem to be cropping up wherever I'm looking, earlier on today it was on a track with fellow San Fran local, Antiserum. Dubsworth and Bakir came together in 2005, both very experienced in the live scene - Bakir toured with Jazzsteppa on their first US tour as their trumpet player and tour manager. Their sound incorporates various elements of bass music mixed with hints of Jazz - which is what caught my attention. They have a live set which I can imagine to be something special.

Oh Contrarians - The Spit Brothers [buy @ Beatport]

This track is slightly different to the one above, bit deeper and heavier but rolls nicely with the blaring horn sections...

Done Gone There - The Spit Brothers

Last but not least, you should all know these two...

Stapleton Road VIP - Mensah
The 1987 Bounce - Gemmy

Two by four...

I been slacking. Here’s a little catch up...

Vishnu first caught my attention about a year ago, incidentally, with this song, ‘Power Of Love’. The long, smooth build up still tickles my ears today and the volume always gets pushed up. Plenty of sub bass accompanies the enchanting vocal before dropping into an addictive, throbbing snared rhythm. The Swarms remix is on the same vibe but with a simpler drum pattern, the vocal’s changed sex and it doesn’t quite carry the same craving.

Never Step On Me (Vishnu Remix) – Swarms

Next up, we came across Skyence in the first Echodub Loves compilation with his tune ‘Precious Time’ which went on to be hit on other blogs. This is another alias which is a little bit more on the Jazzy, Soulful, instrumental Hip-Hop tip. I wasn’t expecting anything of these tunes but they’ve been played over and over... and over! I can’t decide which I prefer.

Shootout – Audionerve
Sweets – Audionerve

Local boy Levelz, from Norwich, recently sent over his college project for approval. Not quite sure why I’ve taken so long to get it up! It’s a 4 track EP, available from his bandcamp, and well worth a listen. I’ve picked my favourite two tracks and both have had thorough listens through. 'Siren' has a standard beat with a sharp snare, but, the melodies in the bassline and colourful synth take it from being a standard tune, to a well put together composition. My second pick has taken a more Garagey, skippy blend full of life and bounce.

Siren - Levelz
One For The Rhode – Levelz

Lastly, we must all be familiar with George Lenton by now. These two on a very very chilled vibe – Al Green’s had the rework and 'Midnight' doesn’t even have a drum beat!

Featuring FAIB

The mixes had a rinsing (check here) and the Soundcloud's been getting the same treatment. There's a reason why, and that is... there's a certain something so dark, deep and satisfying about each production, which keeps me coming back for more. This Russian lady goes by the name of Marina Faib. 'Drops' was a freebie given out last year but only to 100 lucky people. After a little bit of hassling from me, and searching by her - this beauty is now available for the masses. Guaranteed to take you higher.

Drops - Faib [RUDEEE]

This one is pretty brand new and I believe is a competition entry. I haven't heard any other entries yet but they'll struggle to top this. Big spacey, techy kinda halfstep. Boom!

One Hundred Teeth (Faib Remix) - Sabre

Mad unit beats...

DJ Madd is highly rated in my books, I can't get enough of that deep rolling sub bass he's reknowned for. 'Tonight' uses that popular sample but with an innovative and classy touch. It's been floating around for a while but has only recently jumped into my iTunes. Madd's just had a release on Boka with Von D - U/It's Over. Go find it in your favourite store and also look out for the following:

When I First Met U / Got Me Dancing / Babylon [Subway]
Arpz 3000 [Subway]
Dub Marine/Running Man w/ Matt-U [Black Box]
Homeland / Koopa [3.5 Records]
Detroit Skank / Flex'd (Ikonika remix) [Boka]
Heavyweight / Funktion 1 / Not Afraid [Lime Dubs]

Tonight - DJ Madd [RUDEEE]

In The Lounge - DJ Madd

Another artist to look out for in the coming months is Om Unit - having secured recogintion with his Joker remix last year, he's continued producing musically competent beats on the plenty. 'Neptune' comes from Jus Like Music & Apple Juice Break's free compilation 'Oscillations part 1'. He secures the strongest track on the release but if you want to hear the rest go here. This Mizz Beats remix takes a while to drop but, when it does, sticks you in an upbeat jazzy haze and keeps you there for the remaining couple of minutes. Get to know and show some love...
